LEAD THE WAY FOUNDATION HIGHLIGHTS

Look What You Helped Us Accomplish in 2020

2020… What a year to remember and what a year to forget. It was a year of ups and downs for everyone, and the Lead the Way Foundation was no exception. However - despite postponements, cancellations and plenty of restrictions - Chad, Jenni and the rest of the foundation were still able to accomplish a lot in the community between a mix of old programs and new initiatives.

We kicked things off in January when Chad, Dave McElroy and our friends from The AI App Store paid a visit to the patients at Children’s Hospitals & Clinics of Minnesota. Chad provided photos, autographs and warm (pre-COVID) hugs to the patients before checking out the Star Studio Kids Clubhouse, which is the in-house television network at the hospital that broadcasts wall-to-wall entertainment for the entire family.

One of these aforementioned new initiatives was an investment in a therapeutic robotics program at Children’s Minnesota St. Paul Hospital. Chad and Jenni donated seven robots – called Ohmni and Vecta robots – to the hospital, which will significantly improve the quality of life of patients during hospital stays.

Another new initiative came in the form of a hunger relief campaign that saw more than 3,500 students receive much-needed meals. Chad and Jenni launched the hunger relief campaign after the COVID-19 pandemic closed schools throughout the Twin Cities, leaving thousands of kids without regular access to meals.

Mother’s Day is a special holiday for the Lead the Way Foundation. Nearly 1,700 Minnesota mothers have benefitted from the Foundation’s flagship program TendHer Heart. So, to celebrate Mother’s Day 2020, the Lead the Way Foundation held a $52 for #52 campaign to send more moms to TendHer Heart. Forty-five additional mothers will be attending TendHer Heart, which unfortunately was postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic.

Chad & Jenni returned to their old standard in July when they opened their ninth Chad’s Locker. The latest Locker was launched virtually at Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo, ND, improving the spirit of the thousands of children seen at the hospital every year.

In addition to its community outreach programs, the Lead the Way Foundation was able to also hold its normal schedule of fundraising events. After two COVID-related postponements, Chad Greenway’s Celebrity Golf Tournament was finally able to be held on August 24th and 25th under strict COVID-parameters. Like everything else in 2020, this year’s golf tournament looked vastly different, with the Minnesota-made reception and dinner program taking place on Sunday evening and a tee time-based golf tournament taking place Monday morning. Despite the challenges, more than $190,000 was raised and over a dozen local celebs joined in on the fun.

To wrap things up for the year, Chad and Jenni hosted their tenth annual Celebrity Waiter Night in October. The event returned to Manny’s and celebrated a decade of memories from this annual event. Over $260,000 was raised, making it one of the most successful Celebrity Waiter Nights ever despite the challenges that the pandemic created.

2020 proved to be a challenging but successful year for the Lead the Way Foundation. The mixture of new and old programming enriched the lives of thousands of in-need Minnesota families both this year and for many years to come. In spite of the uncertainty that 2020 brings with it, the Lead the Way Foundation’s sponsors and donors came through in a big way, creating two successful fundraising events even with limited capacities and greater restrictions. We are so grateful for the continued support we receive in the community and look forward to changing even more lives in 2021!
